Why and how to get fired up
Every aspect of what we do improves when we do it with enthusiasm, purpose, even joy. We do things more quickly, more completely, more creatively, and more forcefully when we start with an attitude that sounds like “I can’t wait!”
At work, quiet eagerness is seen as a major reason for trust and respect— nothing is more impressive (nobody has to know you’ve injected it into your actions!).
An eager frame of mind not only energizes us; it inspires the people around us. It even makes us healthier and younger. After all, we learn and grow the most before we’re seven— exactly when we’re most joyously engaged.
Unfortunately, our culture is full of neo-Puritan notions. The most pernicious might be that accomplishing anything is a burdens that we must be forced to do. This dampens our enthusiasms, framing activities as external pressure, not internal drives. We think we're growing up but our energy is shrinking.
How can we maximize eagerness and momentum? Check out the suggestions below.
The Fuel of Action
Enthusiasm isn't just feel-good; it supercharges performance. It propels us forward, helping us overcome obstacles and ensure momentum, whatever the challenges. By developing and embracing our inner fire, we'll transform how we approach every activity and make sure we achieve satisfying results.
Energizing motivations also help us prevail. Effective people are resilient solution-finders because they recognize refueling elements within every goal or situation.
This is true in every aspect of our lives. It’s easy to dramatically enhance social, family, recreational, and personal time: as Johnny Mercer enthusiastically wrote in 1944, we just need to “Accentuate the positive” in all we do.
Also Care About What You Have to Do
This doesn’t assume Pollyanna superficiality. Just the opposite. We benefit by connecting below the surface of the less-than-enjoyable. We can (and should) uncover reasons for enthusiasm-- even with tasks we don’t care about or that have been imposed. Seize imposed activities as chances to showcase your versatility and resilience.
With the right mindset, even the most mundane tasks become exciting challenges that add a fifth gear to your personal and professional movement. Just because somebody else considers an action technical and boring doesn't mean you need to agree.
Stop thinking of imposed activities as hassles; recognize them as opportunities for growth. Even situations that are imposed have elements you can care about, act on, and control.
Why not appoint yourself the manager of that supreme energy resource: your attitudes? Decide to approach every situation with positivity and enthusiasm, regardless of its initial appeal. You'll complete tasks more efficiently, and in the process discover unexpected rewards and both personal and professional growth.
Unleashing natural enthusiasm jumpstarts a constructive mindset that conquers even unappealing tasks. By proactively reframing negative evaluations as positive, you’ll overcome annoyance and reluctance, unlocking new levels of engagement. Each day will unfold with energy, and conclude with satisfaction.
In effect, enthusiasm is a secret sauce-- of what we do, the results we achieve, and how others see and appreciate us.
New Skills, New Payoffs
Start by identifying potential benefits within the task at hand. Whether it's developing new skills, expanding your network, or just proving your adaptability, there's always a lot to gain and feel excited about. Embrace both opportunity and challenge, approaching them with enhanced curiosity and determination.
It helps to set clear, achievable goals. Breaking down a task into hand-sized chunks makes it easier to recognize and celebrate small victories. This builds momentum and fuels motivation, turning what could seem like a boring chore into a series of accomplishments.
Anybody can harness the power of positivity and enthusiasm to up their game and achieve unprecedented success. This improves our individual performance, and goes on to inspire those around us, leading the growth of a dynamic, productive work environment.
Firing up enthusiasm will confirm the trust of friends and supporters, and hilariously confuse the doubts of opponents.
